Why do 30% of Swiss people take magnesium... without knowing it?

You might be one of the 30% of Swiss people who regularly take supplements... without necessarily paying attention to their composition. This is what a national survey conducted by DemoSCOPE for the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) reveals.

A surprising figure: 1 in 3 adults takes a food supplement every week

According to this study conducted in 2022 on a representative sample of the Swiss population, 30% of adults reported having consumed at least one food supplement in the last 7 days.

Among the most consumed supplements? Vitamins (C, D, B...), vitamin-mineral complexes... and of course, magnesium, taken by more than a quarter of regular consumers.

And yet, many people are unaware that they consume it! Indeed, magnesium is often integrated into multivitamin complexes or "anti-stress" formulas without being clearly highlighted.

Magnesium: an essential ingredient often "hidden" in formulas

Why is magnesium so often present, even discreetly?

Simply because it is essential: it is involved in over 300 biological reactions in our body. It helps reduce fatigue, supports the proper functioning of muscles and the nervous system, and aids in protein synthesis.

Brands know this well: even if consumers don't always consciously seek it out, magnesium has become essential in many wellness formulations.

Often consumed unconsciously… but not without consequence

What is striking in this study is that only 16% of participants reported having taken a "mineral salt" in the last 7 days. And yet, analyses show that magnesium is among the top 3 actually consumed ingredients.

This means that a part of the population takes magnesium without being truly aware of it, often via a multivitamin or an "anti-fatigue" or "sleep" formula.

However, although magnesium is generally safe, an overdose is possible, especially when combined with other sources (fortified foods, mineral water, etc.). The FSVO also reminds that approximately 25% of consumers exceed the tolerable dose of 250 mg per day.

Why choose quality (and local) magnesium?

At FooDly, we wanted to go further: to offer you 100% Swiss magnesium, with highly assimilable forms (malate, citrate, glycerophosphate), sugar-free, additive-free, with vitamin B6 and C to maximize its effectiveness.

Our goal? To allow you to know exactly what you are consuming, and to choose a product

that is transparent, effective, and locally made.
